Milling tools
Kurval supplies a program of higher quality hand milling tools. These milling cutters are widely used; from tuning engines for racing to finishing and deburring aircraft parts.
Whereas in the past a lot of milling was done with high-speed steel (HSS), this is now done almost exclusively with carbide (HM). HM is a highly wear-resistant material that is obtained by sintering (a kind of fusing together) grains. The size of the grain is important for the quality of the HM, and therefore for the quality of the cutters. Unfortunately, many milling cutters for sale are of poor quality. The micrograin from which our milling cutters are made guarantees high tool life and minimal breakout of cutting edges.
The small cutters often have a shank made of HSS and a milling head made of HM. Thus, the shank has higher strength than carbide. The milling head is soldered to the shank at high temperature. Not only does this allow the shank to be loaded much higher; an additional advantage is a saving in HM, which is of course a more expensive material than HSS.
We can supply the cutters with a wide variety of shapes and cutting edge designs. The materials to be machined often require a special tooth shape or chip breaker. If you need a different shape, feel free to ask us about the possibilities.
