Flat lapping technology

Flat lapping is a traditional process that enables extreme flatness with a high-quality surface finish. The machining is carried out down to the micrometer range and is a true finishing process, as removing only 0.01 mm represents a significant step. Lapping is applied when flatness directly affects the performance of a component. This is often the case with sealing surfaces, where pressures are so high that a gasket is not an option – for example, when carbide or ceramic surfaces must seal against each other cold. Flatness is therefore expressed in light bands – the smallest of the small!

Kurval offers a very extensive range of products for flat lapping technology, from the lapping machine itself to all consumables. Our range also includes equipment for measuring flatness using interference with monochromatic light.

If you require flat lapping for specific applications, please do not hesitate to contact us. We also offer tailored trials according to your requirements.
