Milling tools

Kurval offers a program of high-quality hand milling tools. These cutters are widely used – from tuning combustion engines in racing to finishing and deburring aircraft components.

While in the past much milling was done with high-speed steel (HSS), today it is almost exclusively done with carbide (HM). HM is a highly wear-resistant material produced by sintering (a type of fusing of grains). The grain size is crucial for HM quality and therefore for the quality of the cutters. Unfortunately, many cutters of mediocre quality are available on the market. The micro-grain used in our cutters guarantees long tool life and minimal edge chipping.

Small cutters often have a shank made of HSS with a carbide cutting head. The shank is stronger than carbide. The cutting head is brazed to the shank at high temperature. This not only allows higher loads on the shank but also saves carbide, which is more expensive than HSS.

We supply cutters in a wide variety of shapes and cutting edge designs. The materials to be machined often require special tooth forms or chip breakers. If you need a custom shape, please contact us.

Steel files

In addition to our extensive range of diamond files, we also supply most standard and special steel files. As Kurval’s history began in 1937 with these products, steel files form a true “original package.” At that time, almost all work was done with saws and files. Today, steel files are mainly used for light deburring or small adjustments.

Occasionally, slight finishing is still required in molds and dies. This is often done using hand files, particularly riffler or cut files. The coarseness grades are indicated on the files, showing tooth spacing and roughness. These grades are also available in our catalog.
