Polishing- and Grinding Stones

Polishing Stones

Oil polishing stones are the only suitable option for improving the surface finish of complex shapes. A wide variety of bonds and grit sizes also make it possible to select the right option here. The hardness and composition of the material to be machined are the determining factors.

Oil-bonded polishing stones are designed so that the dulled grain breaks off and is replaced by a new grain. The more wear-resistant the selected abrasive grain, the harder the bond. A soft stone is therefore often used when the shape is complex and the stone must quickly conform to the shape in order to machine the entire surface. The hardness of the material determines the steps required to achieve the desired result. The added oil ensures that the broken-off grains drain away properly.

Tip: Always use a polishing- or grindingstone oil and never an oil not intended for grindingstones. Ordinary oil causes the dislodged grains to clump together, resulting in deep scratches on the surface.

Flexible Polishing- and Grinding Stones

For hard-to-reach areas in molds and products, there is the flexible Polishing- and Grinding Stones. It consists of a fiber in which an abrasive grain is embedded, allowing the relatively small whetstone to withstand greater pressure without breaking. The flexible Polishing- and Grinding Stones has a major advantage over the standard Polishing- and Grinding Stones. A flexible Polishing- and Grinding Stones is, in fact, a springy stone and is therefore much easier to use on complex

Flexible stones are ideal for use with almost all materials. The color indicates the grit size. These whetstones are available in thicknesses starting at 0.5 mm. There is also a round version designed to fit into a collet with a diameter of 3 or 2.35 mm, allowing you to work with the stone in a rotating motion. The flexible whetstones can be dressed with a diamond file.

Polishing- and Grinding Stones oil

How can a Polishing- or Grinding Stone be used?

Both a flexible Polishing- and Grinding Stones and a “standard” oil Polishing- and Grinding Stones can be used by hand or with a machine. This makes them easy to use for both manual sharpening and machine applications, depending on the desired method and end results.

What is the advantage of using a machine?

Machine operation offers a faster and easier way to achieve the desired result. Thanks to a constant speed and even pressure, a consistent result is achieved, saving both time and effort. Machine grinding ensures higher productivity, a precise finish, and a longer service life for the tools used. This allows you to improve and accelerate productivity on the shop floor.
