Flat lapping technology

Lapping is an ancient process that allows for extreme flatness with a high-quality surface finish. Machining can be performed in the micrometer range and is considered a true finishing operation, as removing 0.01 mm is already quite a feat. Lapping is used when flatness directly affects the function of the component in question. This often involves sealing surfaces where pressures are so high that a gasket is not an option, for example, because carbide or ceramic surfaces must be sealed together cold.
